Compliance and export control

Some of the equipment we supply, especially advanced GPUs and servers, is subject to export controls. This page explains what it means for your request.

Our practice

What we do

This page lists only the procedures we actually follow.

Import and export licensing

We follow the Import and Export Ordinance (Cap. 60). Where goods are strategic commodities, we obtain the licences issued by the Trade and Industry Department (TID) before import or export.

Sanctions screening

We screen customers, consignees and end users for sanctions under the United Nations Sanctions Ordinance (Cap. 537) and, where applicable, against US, EU and UK sanctions lists.

End-use and end-user checks

Every request states the end use. Before quoting, we check the end use and the end user and ask for more information where needed.

End-user statement

Where the item or the destination calls for it, we ask the buyer for a signed end-user statement.

No re-export clauses

Our sales contracts include clauses that prohibit re-export in breach of applicable export-control and sanctions rules.

Bank transfers only

We accept payment only by bank transfer from the counterparty's own account — no cash and no third-party payments.

Export control

Why we ask about the end use

Many advanced GPUs, and servers built on them, are controlled under the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These rules can apply outside the United States too, including when goods are resold.

Since 2020, Hong Kong has been treated the same as mainland China for EAR purposes. Banks and vendors review such shipments closely.

That is why the end use is a required field in our request form: it lets us screen export-controlled items before quoting, not after.

Rametech does not give export-control rulings or legal advice. Whether a specific item needs a licence depends on its classification, destination, end use and end user. If you are unsure about your own obligations, please consult your compliance adviser.
